HV energy specialist promoted to Head of Operations - Maintenance

Maintech Power, the High Voltage (HV) installation and maintenance specialist, has announced the promotion of energy specialist Gary Edgar to Head of Operations – Maintenance as it increases its activity in the renewables industry.

With more than half of its projects in sectors including onshore wind, large-scale solar power and battery storage, Maintech Power’s team of experienced engineers, led by Gary, are undertaking maintenance on major HV infrastructure across the UK.

Gary began his career as an apprentice jointer working on underground cabling with EDF Energy Networks in 2004, progressing his capabilities to become a multi-skilled linesman, undertaking the maintenance on overhead power lines.

With this experience Gary joined EDF Energy Network’s fault department before the company was acquired by UK Power Networks where he became a Field Staff Supervisor for the East of England.

Gary was later promoted to Faults Manager before leaving UK Power Networks in 2016 to become an independent fault locating contractor for Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs).

Joining Maintech Power three years ago as a Field Manager, he became HV Project Manager before taking on this new role managing the company’s maintenance project portfolio.

He will oversee Maintech Power’s team of engineers as well as working closely with customers throughout projects from planning the scope of works through to completion.

This is an exciting time for Maintech Power as the demand for our specialist services grows exponentially.  We’re working across England, Scotland and Wales on projects in renewable energy, as well as private networks for sectors such as higher education and defence, providing ongoing HV maintenance support, which has generated a significant portfolio of activity for the business.

This level of work requires meticulous planning and execution, together with building and developing our team of specialists, which I am bringing from my career in the industry.

Gary Edgar, Head of Operations - Maintenance

Gary is a great example of the experienced and talented people we attract to Maintech Power and provide them with the opportunity to progress their careers with the business.

As we increase our presence in our home region of East Anglia as well as on projects across the UK, we are strengthening our team through talent attraction as well as workforce development, which ensures that we maintain the highest standards of expertise and service for our customers.
